Drupal: Receive an Email when a reader leaves a comment

Here is the scenario. We’ve created a blog using Drupal (don’t ask why, just because) and have written the most interesting blog post. After announcing the new post on every social media site that we can think of, we wait. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got more important things to do than to sit around and wait on feedback. Wouldn’t it be nice if the site would notify you of any new comments? Well it will with a little help.

By configuring Actions and Triggers your Drupal website will send an email when a reader, clicks the submit button on a new comment.

Prerequisite: Enable the Trigger module (found on the modules page Admin – Site building – Modules).

We will first set up the Action (Send e-mail) that will be triggered when a comment is submitted. So go to Admin – Site configuration – Actions.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the drop-down menu, and select send e-mail. Click create.

Fill in the blanks. It’s pretty straight forward. Here is what I used.

Secondly, we will configure the Trigger (Admin – Site building – Triggers).

At the top of the page, you should click the Comments Tab.

Google Reader

Find the section (Trigger: After saving a new comment) and select Send e-mail. Click Assign.

That’s it.

Navigate to your blog post and create a test comment. You should receive notification via emal.
