Most people are visual learners, so let’s stop and look at the address bar on your browser. Scan over to the far right side of the address bar. The little orange icon indicates that the site you are viewing offers subscriptions to its content. Almost always, these subscriptions are free.
As a designer, I subscribe to over 100 different RSS feeds. Most of the feeds I subscribe to are design blog’s that discuss current trends in the industry. Not all of these feeds are updated daily, but when they are, the new article is sent directly to my feed reader.
To subscribe to an RSS feed, click the orange icon in the address bar. Select and copy the feed address (e.g. http://thegraphicdesignshop.com/rss.xml).
Open your RSS reader (I use Google Reader…more on why in a different article).
Click “Add a subscription” and paste the feed address into the form field. Click “Add”.
Your feed has been added. Any new articles produced will automatically be sent to your feed reader.
I designate a certain time each day to check my feed reader. Feed readers make the most efficient use of your time while allowing you to keep current with your interests.
